Tea Party Report-Showdown in Searchlight, Nevada

I was proud to be one of the many fortunate people able to make it out to Searchlight, Nevada, Harry Reid's hometown to attend the Tea Party Express "Showdown in Searchlight" rally.  What many pundits dismissed as a gathering hoping to number in the hundreds, produced a crowd of 10,000 or more.  I wish I knew how to estimate crowd sizes, but the gathering filled a 200 acre valley.

As usual, the crowd was well behaved and orderly.  Much more so than the typical leftist demonstration which seem to have the hallmarks of smoke, thrown bricks and personal property destruction.  None of that here.  In fact the only violence was provided by the supporters of Harry Reid who reportedly "egged" the Tea Party Express buses holding the celebrities.  Did you expect otherwise, or do you buy the myth that the Lefties are peaceful and the Tea Partiers are raging Right Wing, racist fanatics, like David Duke?  Go to an event and see for yourself, that's all I can say.  It almost brings me to tears to read the lies that are spread in the media to distort and diminish the exercise of grass roots power going on within the movement.

Here is a great little video about the event from YouTube.  Take note of the woman who cries when she talks about her experience and how she is now "political".  This is where it's at folks.  It's time to stand up and be counted.




What follows below is my own series of pictures of the event.  I went out the day before the event and stayed overnight in my motorhome.  I had a great evening chatting with my neighbors and in the morning was treated to the sight of the unending flow of traffic and people into the event.  I carried a sign that said "Obama-Nomics, Chains You Can Believe In" on one side and "Give Me Liberty, Not Debt" on the other.  The sign is quite large and the incessant cold, dusty wind made holding it akin to a battle with a trophy sized marlin.  My biceps are pumped up because of it.  Lots of people like this particular sign and your humble blogger was photographed many times (wide angle lenses no doubt) and interviewed by the Japanese Broadcasting Network and the Boulder City press.  I hope to find any trace of what I said in Google searches.  If I do, I will post them here.

I stayed long enough to see the place build up and be torn down.  The crowd was very much into seeing Sarah Palin and about 25% of the crowd and 50 % of the media bailed after she spoke.  The event provided a forum for conservative candidates running for the congressional and senatorial seats in Nevada.  I was impressed by some of the talent voters will have to choose from.  Many of them great communicators with strong positive messages.  Nevada has a chance to change, big time, this year.  Hopefully the "sheeple" will stay at home in November.

The Star Wars Connection

Ok.  What in the heck does the image on the left have to do with this blog?  Well the mind is a strange thing.  If you were to examine mine, I don't know what you would find.  But somewhere down there in the depths of my subconscious I decided there was something from the Star Wars series of movies that has a bearing on what we "right-thinking"Americans are going through these days.

After being pummeled by the power drunk Democrats in the health care vote, I think most patriotic folks had a sick feeling in their stomachs (say, is that treatable for free under the new health care regime?).  The Democrats on the other hand were celebratory.  The house chamber erupted with left wing whooping and backslapping at the very moment the poisonous health care bill was shot into Americas veins.  And there was my Star Wars connection.

In the third Star Wars prequel (don't hold me to it) Queen Amidala (shown above) was maneuvered by the evil Senator Palpatine into helping him receive broad emergency powers from the galactic senate.  This was technically done by the feckless Jar Jar Binks, but Amidala was the key.  The end result was that Palpatine became emperor with unlimited powers.  Amidala realizes that the democratic senate and the free galactic government has been transformed into a despotic regime.  The vote elevating Palpatine, like the health care vote, was greeted with celebration, although the naive senators probably had not stopped to think they had just thrown away freedom for themselves and their peoples.  In despair Amidala says; "so this is how liberty dies, to thunderous applause".  Enough said.  Perhaps we could continue this fantasy and have Jedi Master Limbaugh come in and fight it out with Obama (uh Palpatine) and company.  Let's get off our duffs and begin the new era.

If Not Now, When?

Republicans may be cheered to know that many states and individuals will be busily bringing lawsuits forward to stop the implementation of the new Health Care Law on constitutional grounds.  What bothers me is the resignation that many pundits have as to the outcome of such lawsuits.  Not only will the bill be nearly impossible to outright repeal, many "in the know" seem to think the constitutional challenges are longshots.  Now that bothers me.

Forget about the more arcane constitutional challenges that will come forward, what about the government forcing you to buy insurance?  People seem to be resigned to having this happen.  What the heck is happening here?  Does a sane person for one minute believe that the Founders would have stood for the government compelling them to buy something?  Of course not, that's precisely why the American Revolution took place. 

Sadly there seems to be another revolution taking place.  It is called Obama's "Change".  While most are asleep at the wheel and letting this happen, those who are informed are scared out of our wits.   Where right thinking people see the destruction of the Republic, the new breed of the voting entitled are thinking it's Christmas.  No joke.  The guy that Obama had out front for his grand Health Care celebration said "it's like Christmas".  When America celebrates lethargy and the giveaway mentality the wheels are really off the wagon.  It is time to beat the drums.

So-called constitutional scholars seem to think there is unlimited "elasticity" in the reach of the Constitution.  The Constitution was a document that LIMITS government, but what I hear today is that it is virtually anything you want it to be.  It is giving credibility to liberal politicians who want to remake the United States in the image of the failed socialist states that have come before us in history.  It is time to say "enough!!!!"  Say no to further government intrusion.  A line must be drawn now otherwise we are destined to be no better than any run of the mill Banana Republic.

The Witch that Ate the Constitution

I don't know how many of you may have watched the historic health care vote.  I forced myself even though it was a sandbagged event.  In the end, I knew the fight had just begun and hopefully the battles on other fields will be more rewarding for the "good guys".  Three cheers for the Republicans who stood tall and the 34 Democrats who know a rotting corpse of a bill when they see one.

I watched Nancy Pelosi's little introductory speech for the preordained outcome and thought it might be an interesting exercise in American Civics.  I listened in awe as Aunt Nancy invoked the founding documents of the United States just before her party ripped them apart with their vote.  She alluded to the oft recited phrase "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"; then, in typical liberal fashion made the case to include Universal Health Care one of the "unalienable rights".

This my friends is the root of the discord between the Left and Right in this country.  The Republicans know and live what is written in the founding documents, the Left tries to re-write them.  This is why there will NEVER be a reconciliation of the two sides as long as the Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution are considered our governing standard.

Nancy was a little creative, when she asserted that the unalienable right of Universal Health Care enables the citizenry to enjoy the "Life" part of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  Not so fast there Nancy.  Did she once stop to think about the cost of that right?  Of course not, the Libs never do.  But the cost here is not measured in dollars and cents, it is measured in freedoms.  The freedoms that are extracted from others, burdening THEIR right to a good Life,  to deliver on Nancy's promise.  It is on the Democrat menu every day for lunch; "I'll have more legislation please, but hold the freedoms".

A little simplistic but true.  If Nancy had been able to see around her own massive ego, she would have noticed that to deliver her Grail of health care for all, she would have to extract dollars from the producing class of this country; "there ain't no free lunch".  Hard working Americans will have to sacrifice their earned income so that Nancy can sleep well at night in her land of gingerbread and honey.  What about real taxpayers' right to enjoy their Life and their Liberty and their Happiness?  What happened to that? Without her coming out and saying it,  hard-working people are looking down the barrel of the Federal gun (with the IRS' finger on the trigger) in order to pay for the Health Care abomination.  Until Nancy and her colleagues in power are removed we might as well pretend that the Founding Fathers never existed.

Nancy also went on to mark the vote on health care as a moment in history comparable to the formation of Medicare and Social Security.  Both programs are bankrupt or nearing bankruptcy.  Nice try.  In the end there was a reason that the Founding Fathers chose to reference the Creator.  The rights we hold as unalienable must come from the Creator, they cannot come from man, unless of course you are a deity like Nancy or Barack.

The Stench of the "Republic"

I am trying to remain optimistic as the health care "debate" carries on in front of my eyes.  But something is evident.  Something that has dogged me since the 2008 elections.  My worry was about the Democrats gaining majorities in the House and Senate in tandem with control of the executive branch, the presidency.  Sadly my worst fears were realized.

Normally one could expect in our republic and based on our history that despite one side having a clear majority, there would be some sanity in the process of approving legislation.  The problem was that times have changed.  Washington has changed, and the Democrats have been out of power for too long. Driven by the lust to get "something done", the Democrats have pulled out all the stops to pass the Obamacare bill.  Gone is humility.  Gone is concern for the will of the people.  Gone is any kind of restraint.  This is now pure Machiavelli.

Little did the "Changelings" know when they voted for Obama in concert with a legislative majority what damage could be wrought.  Little did I know, as with most Americans I suspect, that when the majority is in power they can change the rules and the way things have been done for hundreds of years.  It is kind of like "fail safe".  Our nuclear arsenal couldn't be initiated without passing a series of tests to make sure the order to fire and annihilate was confirmed, not once but many times before Armageddon was unleashed.  Well, imagine that same scenario, yet it was possible for the security questions to be overridden.  That is what we are faced with here.

Not only do the Democrats control a simple majority in the House and Senate, they control the rules committees.  So if you don't like the way things are done, simply change the rules to suit your need.  That is what we see here with health care.  They, the Democrats, can't get it done the usual way so let's change the rules and the people be damned.  Did you know this could happen?  Have the Obama stars in your eyes dimmed at the realization that you are seeing the naked reality that our Republic is broken?  Fatally flawed.  If you think about it for more than a nanosecond, the notion that this land is governed by the will of the people is nonsensical idealism.

Our system can only really work when there is a balance of powers and a mechanism (immutable) in place to protect some minority interest.  These rules have stood in place for many years, yet we see them rent asunder by elected representatives that have become too believing in their own BS.  I hope and pray that Obamacare can be undone if it is somehow passed.  If it does pass, the stench alone should wake up enough voters to re-balance the government as it should be.

"We" Elected These People?

In another ham-handed foreign policy move the Democrats have managed to alienate Turkey and drive them right into the arms of Iran.
 
(CNSNews.com) – As the Obama administration scrambles to contain the diplomatic fallout with Turkey over the “Armenian genocide” resolution in the U.S. Congress, Turkey’s tilt towards Iran continues largely unnoticed.

Congress should be too busy with our own country's crises to spend time sticking their nose into other people's business.  But that's a liberal for you.  Always hand-wringing, always feeling guilty and always apologizing. What's with these types?  Just a week ago we had the California legislature, democratic liberal of course, pass a resolution to create a day or a week without swearing.  Yes, these people found the time to be self righteous and play morality policeman.  Well, perhaps they can get Rahm Emanuel to be their posterboy. 

The consequences of the Armenian resolution are beyond belief.  Turkey is the only Islamic country with a secular government.  It is seen as a bridge between the Islamic world and Western cultures and thus immensely important for the balance of power in the Middle East if not the world.  Then what in Allah's name are these congressional yahoos doing pissing Turkey off?

If you want to read about the sins of a hundred years ago, go read a history book and you decide.  Just please Mr. Congressman don't make it your job to apologize for some barbarism committed by someone else a long time ago when it upsets the entire foreign policy of America.  Get the weenie liberals the hell out of Washington (oops, I guess I violated the no swearing resolution).

Pop Quiz for Right Thinking People

In recent days the news has been full of little tidbits that pointedly expose the flawed ideals of liberals.  See how well you do.  Being a San Diegan and a Conservative helps.  The answers are at the bottom of the page.

1.  In March a San Diego County deputy sheriff was killed when his car went out of control and pitched down and embankment.  The officer was chasing a man high on drugs and alcohol and marijuana who was driving the wrong way on the freeway.  The "perp" was;

3.  After being punished by crazily high public union pensions and a vanishing economy Greece stands on the brink of financial failure.  To help the nation recover from its troubles the public unions:

  A.  Held a baclava bake sale to raise money for the Greek treasury
  B.  Agreed to a series of austerity measures
  C.  Supplied the nation with free Ouzo for a week.
  D.  Went on a crippling general strike hurting all Greeks.

4.  President Obama wowed his followers some time back when he insisted that all legislation coming forth must be paid for, commonly known as "pay and go".  In response, Democrats in the house:

  A.  Tore down the "bridge to nowhere".
  B.  Refused to pay for John Murtha's funeral
  C.  Passed a 15 billion dollar jobs bill that most economists feel won't work

5.  In order to safeguard our nuclear waste generated by reactors and research around the country the government recently:

Connect the Dots Liberals.....Courtesy of Steve Wynn

I had the pleasure of hearing the audio excerpts of the fourth quarter results for Wynn Resorts.  Steve Wynn, the dynamic CEO of the company was responding to a question from Robin Farley of UBS about the prospects for business in the upcoming year or two.  The answer Wynn gave was not so much an answer as a primer for Liberals who need to "connect the dots" when they take it upon themselves to vilify corporations and the rich, the two keys to the prosperity and wealth of all in the United States.  You can see this going on with the sponsorship of the Obama administration almost daily and it has set the stage for class warfare and the politics of envy for the next few election cycles and beyond.  If the liberals shall remain in power, this may just be the beginning.  Read on liberals.  Think about the message.  Without vibrant businesses, wealth and capital, liberals, communists and socialists will earn nothing and get nothing.   Nothing for themselves and nothing out of life.  No health care, no pensions and no house.   If you learn something here, you can connect the dots and hopefully pick on something else to satisfy your neuroses.

Steve Wynn:

"If you are talking about strictly convention booking, you can say that ’10 is better than ’09, and you can say you see a trend of increased bookings. It is totally irresponsible and naïve for anybody to say based upon this slight trend, we project this infinitely into the future and give you some rosy baloney story about what’s going to happen in ’11. And I am warning my investors that may be on the call, to the extent that you hear any of that from our competitors, beware. There are more questions afoot in this market in America that will impact ’11 than I have hair in my head, I am happy to say, and I still have a full head of hair.

No, you’ll not get any of that from us. I don’t see it. I’ve got more questions than answers. I have more pessimism than I have had before. And it’s based upon the political environment in which we are living today. And it definitely is impacting Las Vegas. The President of the United States hasn’t missed one single opportunity to squelch Las Vegas. In our particular case it’s cost us millions of dollars from companies affected by the President’s remarks that had no connection whatsoever to federal bailouts. But we get phone calls, and I am not going to mention the names of the companies, from Chairmen, who say we don’t want to appear to be profligate because Barack Obama said this or that about Las Vegas. But it’s had an effect on us. The hospitality industry in the United States of America as a whole has suffered disproportionately during this recession. Maybe automobile workers got a break. But all of the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people that work in the hotels, restaurants, and bars in the United States of America have been totally and completely overlooked in this aborted rescue attempt that has squandered billions of dollars in the United States. And I am being very harsh about it. And I’ve got the data to back it up and so is everybody else in the hospitality industry.

Job formation and the kinds of companies that make jobs are under attack in the United States of America. You know, MGM – aside for a moment – in – last year we created almost 5000 jobs. And immediately became the target of the administration. Businesses that created jobs, little own gaming companies have created jobs, had to be no good. I mean, it is preposterous that businesses are under attack in the United States of America.

Anybody that makes over$250,000 in the form of a personal income tax return is now by Washington definition ‘a rich person’ when everybody who has got a college degree knows that the personal income tax rate in the United States of America is the business tax of America. Every subchapter S, every individual proprietorship, and every partnership in the United States of America files tax returns as individuals. And when they do, and they show that they made $2 million, or $3 million or God forbid $4 million, they pay the income tax rate. They deduct their working expenses, their living expenses and then they invest in a new store, a new shop, and most of the time 25% of their “profits” are tied up in accounts receivable or inventory. But all of a sudden, all of those people who make over $250,000 are rich folks to be fleeced. And if that’s job formation stimulation in America, (inaudible) providence. And if I sound angry about it, and disgusted, I am disgusted and angry at the apparent ignorance of the administration and the Congress to recognize the fact that the individual tax rate in the United States of America is in fact the business tax of America. And if you keep banging on that, you will destroy in the incentive for job formation in the United States of America. And that’s simple truth. Simple truth. And whether politicians like it or don’t like it, it means nothing to me.

And that’s why I am pessimistic about Las Vegas, because those are our customers. Those people out there, hustling their businesses, and God forbid, showing that they made a million dollars as a partnership or as an individual, yes, they are the enemy now. They are the rich folks. Well, until we get over this America is in for hard times because what’s going to happen is the people that are going to suffer from what’s going on are the working class of America. My 15 to 20,000 employees they are the ones that are in trouble. The reason they are in trouble is this demolition of the dollar. It’s going to reduce the buying power of the working class of America as sure hell as if we gave them a salary cut of 25%. And that’s another thing that doesn’t seem to be clear to the brilliant people in Washington, D.C. They are not just our customers, they are my employees. And until my employees get the drift of what’s being done to them America is in trouble.
