It was with great pleasure yesterday that I attended the first anniversary of the San Diego Tea Party. The gathering was held at the embarcadero and near the Star of India. Turnout was impressive, despite heavy rain and thunder. As before, it gives one a good feeling to mingle with others who share your beliefs about the insane course this country has taken, under the guise of "change". Lord help us if we get too much of this kind of change.
The message of the Tea Party group is simple. Stay active. Stick to the principles of small government, the beauty of our United States Constitution, individual responsibility and low taxes. This came out loud and clear for all of us that attended; Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians and Independents. All who are tired of the government's confiscation of our individual freedoms.
What struck me most, and is the impetus behind this post is the "message", of the counter-protest to the Tea Party gathering. While the Tea Party gathering was calm, constructive and non-violent, the handful of "useful idiots" who came to protest across the street had an entirely different approach. First they tried to disrupt the Tea Party speakers with a bullhorn, which failed when the Harbor Police found they had no permit for it at their gathering. Next came the chants. What kind of chants you might ask? Well, things like "racists, bigots, anti-gay go away". Other favorites were signs like "Single Payer System Now" and "Tax the Rich First". Obviously these folks came with an agenda and more importantly closed minds. If they had taken the time to listen to what was going on, mingle with the Tea Party crowd they would have quickly seen their chants rang hollow. These people had no coherent message. All that they tried to say was glued together by hate, class envy and intolerance.
Unbelievably the hate-monger counterdemonstrators tried to offer up a song; "This is My Country". It made me sick to think that the Tea Partiers efforts to protect Constitutional freedoms give haven to lunatics like the Lefties that showed up yesterday. This really is not the Lefties country, it is not what they want and it is not what makes them happy. A timeless rant seems to apply here. To all you Libs out there who don't like the soil you stand on "Love It or Leave It". Let's show them the door in November.
By the way, that's me in the picture above from the 2009 Tea Party at Spanish Landing. I have my back to the camera on the left side, holding my sign "Give Me Liberty, Not Debt" and the flip side "Obamanomics, Chains You Can Believe In". Get out there. It's fun and vital for our country.
