Once again the Obama administration has proven John McCain's campaign assertion that it would require "on the job training" once in office. Yesterday, the administration fell all over itself to decry the military coup in Honduras. During the run up to the actual coup itself, in which president Manuel Zalaya was ousted by the army, the Obama team had insisted that the two sides "talk it out" before tensions escalated beyond repair.
We are seeing more and more evidence of what right thinkers already knew. Talk is cheap when dealing with some countries and issues. If all the reports are to be believed, former president Zalaya was preparing to "reform" the constitution by removing the term limits of the presidency. His own Supreme Court ruled against him and it didn't take a Honduran rocket scientist to see that he was following in the footsteps of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. So why was Obama in such a rush to come out against the coup?
I think that he is upset that Zelaya's trick couldn't be pulled off. Obama (like ex president Jimmy Carter) is quite comfortable with budding socialist regimes. I private, Obama is probably a big fan of Hugo Chavez and applauds his expansion of socialism in Latin America. Take this a step further. Suppose Obama supports the coup? He might be condoning the tool for his own political demise. A hard-core conspiritorist would think that Obama might be seeing a little of his own future in America if he and his liberal cronies continue their destruction of the U.S. economy, their nationalizations of private enterprise and willful infliction of economic hardship in the name of specious environmental goals. Will Tea Parties grow into massive expression of public outrage as Americans bridle under Obamas new social order? What then the U.S. military?
When the dust settles in Honduras, if the military does as promised and protects the Honduran constitution, as I believe it will, Obama's foreign policy will appear misguided and childish as it is. His majesty's well hidden preference for nacent socialist regimes will be exposed for all to see. One more nail in the coffin.
